Pedagogy

The pedagogy at Orthodox Theological Seminary consist of

  1. Classroom Lectures
    OTS has a strong Orthodox Faculty, which includes of 14 doctoral degree holders. Students are expected to be regular at all class hours prescribed for their courses. One who is absent, for more than four class hours of a course, shall not be permitted to sit for the examination. Absence of less than four class hours shall be compensated by supplementary work at the discretion of the teacher concerned.
  2. Multimedia presentations
    The seminary has a full fledged audio-visual facility, that aids the classroom activities as necessary.
  3. Seminar and Presentations
    Students are expected to conduct seminars and presentations as instructed by the concerned  teachers.
  4. Individual and group based development activities
    Other individual and group based activities oriented for the overal personal development of the student are conducted from time to time.
  5. Assignments
    Various assignments are given to the students on a regular basis.
  6. Written Dissertation (Thesis)
    At the end of the sixth Semester before 31st January, Students have to select the topic for the Dissertation and a Professor will guide the work. The written Dissertation must be submitted to the office of the Registrar by the last Semester before 31st January. The Dissertation must have a minimum of 35 pages and a maximum of 70 pages (double space). Students should follow the norms and instructions given by the Senate of Serampore College for preparing their Dissertation.
  7. Examinations
    The academic year is divided into two semesters. At the end of each semester there shall be some days of study leave to prepare for examinations. Examinations shall be not only on the basis of lectures given in the class, but also based on the literature related to the subject assigned for private and personal study.
  8. Field Work Requirements
    Successful and satisfactory completion of all field education requirements is mandatory for issuing a 'no objection certificate' for ordination. Field education requirements generally entails leadership in Sunday parish services, participation in parish mission projects during Christmas and Summer vacations, organizing charitable works in hospitals, orphanages, and prisons and rendering voluntary service in Church related institutions for one academic year
